Biography

Coming from a background in internet and cable tv technology, Lorenz currently advises and invests in technology startups. His key focus is on innovation in the context of ever increasing areas of the economy going digital, the associated paradigm shifts and how these can be utilized to optimize technology strategy and business development. As time permits Lorenz consults with investors, operators and vendors who want to leverage his operational and strategic experience in execution.

From 2006 to 2015 he was CTO at Kabel Deutschland (KD), Germany’s biggest cable operator. In that role he was driving KD’s network & services roll out and next generation product implementation, supporting the company in its quest to rapidly scale its operation to become a primary challenger to the incumbent. His focus was on creating advanced quadruple play services on top of KD’s network infrastructure, on cost efficiency as well as on pushing network and service migration towards IP.

In 2010 Lorenz was part of the executive team preparing and executing KD’s highly successful IPO and three years later pitching and selling the company to Vodafone. From 2009 to 2015 Lorenz served as the chairman of the European arm of cablelabs, facilitating information exchange and standardization in the European cable industry in alignment with his North American peers.

Prior to his role at KD Lorenz worked as senior vice president of network and systems design & architecture for Liberty Global in Europe. Lorenz was educated at the University of Vienna and the University of California, Santa Cruz and received an MSc. in Physics in 1995.
